This month we kick off our "Getting to Know" series with our first "interview" with Dr. Lim. Over the coming months, we’ll share information about other Kirkwood Animal Hospital team members.

Our objective is for you to know more about each of us, why we’re passionate about pets and how we each developed the skills and experience to help maintain the wellness and health of your pets.

Led by our experienced doctors educated at the nation’s top veterinary schools, Kirkwood Animal Hospital is Campbell’s first independent practice dedicated to healing and the well-being of your dogs and cats.

A Discussion with Dr. Frolich Lim, DVM

Dr. Lim

When did you first know being a veterinarian was your calling?
When I was seven years old I nursed an injured bird back to health over two weeks and released it back to its natural habitat. From that point on I’ve been interested in taking care of animals and helping them maintain a strong quality of life.

Where did you attend school?
I attended Cornell University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 2004. I enjoyed the quality of the education so much I studied and obtained a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 — one of the very best veterinary schools in the nation.

How long have you been a veterinarian?
I have been a practicing veterinarian for more than eight years. Of those, more than four years have been here at Kirkwood Animal Hospital with four years working in a private veterinary practice in Pennsylvania.

What do you enjoy most about being a veterinarian?
I enjoy helping a variety of pets through a variety of situations as it pulls on my formal training and hands-on experience. Most importantly, I enjoy seeing animals remain or return to health through our guidance and interventions. And it’s great getting to know the pet owners and their families — particularly when they are reunited with their pets.

What type of pets have you had during your life — and which do you currently have?
Throughout my life I have been surrounded by dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles and betta fish. Currently I have a ridgeback/hound/shepherd mix named Moose and a black domestic short hair cat named Broken. They have both been a part of my family for more than five years now.

How do you keep current with the latest treatments, techniques and medicines?
To keep abreast with the advances in veterinary medicine, I read journals, attend continuing education seminars and discuss advances with peers. To keep a pulse on trends, I also read online articles published by several professional veterinary associations.

What hobbies, activities, or interests do you have outside of your calling as a veterinarian?
I enjoy outdoor activities such as volleyball, hiking and Ultimate Frisbee. I also enjoy reading, going to the movies, church activities and community service.

On the personal side, what might clients be surprised to learn about your life experiences or accomplishments?
I have lived in several U.S. states and traveled abroad. I was born and lived in Manila, Philippines for the first seven years of my life. I also lived in Ontario, Canada for eight years. In additon to living in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York, I spent a summer in Burlington, Vermont working as a painter while attending Cornell — and I hiked Mount Washington!
