The Wellness Program at Kirkwood Animal Hospital is designed to keep your pet healthy and happy using early detection and proactive health management practices.

Dog Wellness CareThe cornerstone of our Wellness Program is annual exam — and the first exam for kittens and puppies. During the exam, the veterinarian will:

  • Inquire about any ongoing or recent health/behavioral issues your pet may have experienced
  • Review the status of any prior health issues, injuries or surgeries
  • Carefully check your pet’s eyes and ears
  • Examine your pet’s teeth — looking for tartar, chips, or breaks
  • Listen to your pet’s heart and breathing
  • Feel your pet’s bone structure — including the head, neck, hips, legs, feet, and toes
  • Review your pet’s current weight, dietary plan and daily exercise levels
  • Examine and express glands if necessary
  • Ensure all vaccinations, heart worm, and parasite prevention measures are current
  • Conduct any necessary diagnostic tests (such as blood work, fecal, etc.) based upon the findings of the exam
  • The annual exam is the ideal opportunity for you to ask any questions.

Cat Wellness CareBased upon the findings of the exam, we may suggest additional specific courses of action — all focused upon early action and maintaining the health and longevity of your pet.

To help minimize the trauma to your pet and contain health fees, we do not believe in conducting a broad range of diagnostic tests. All actions are targeted toward managing a specific, identified therapeutic course.

As an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, our Wellness Program focuses upon early detection to keep your pet healthy and the entire family happy.
